Where to Stay
I stayed at three different airbnb's during my trip to Bali and I had the most amazing experience in each one. Not only did I save so much money but I also got all the perks and luxuries of a hotel. I mean for $54 a night, one of the villas I stayed in had a private on call driver, daily free breakfast and cleaning service. It was so hard to chose from all the options on airbnb so i tried three different villas, one in Seminyak and two in Ubud and I was not disappointed.
Staying in an airbnb gives you a full cultural immersion experience in Bali this was a big part of the reason I enjoyed my stay so much. In many ways I got to experience Bali from a locals perspective while making new friends along the way.

Flights, Tips & resources
Depending on where you are coming from, flights to Bali can be incredibly ($850+) expensive. If you are trying to minimize expenses, consider traveling to a nearby country like Malaysia, Singapore,Cambodia, Vietnam etc. You get to experience an additional country and save money on flights.
For example, my friend who was traveling from the United states booked a ticket to Singapore for $480, spent a day in Singapore and then booked a flight from Singapore to Bali for $120 roundtrip. She saved $330 on a flight that would have traditionally costed her $900, not to mention that flights within Asia are ridiculously cheap compared to domestic flights in America or elsewhere, most flights within south east Asia range from $30-$150 roundtrip depending on what time of year you book.
